One arrested after standoff with police, officer involved shooting

EAU CLAIRE – Police shot at and arrested one person after a standoff in Eau Claire Friday night.

According to a press release from the Eau Claire Police Department, officers were called to the 2200 block of 2nd Street for a disturbance. While on that call, they saw a second disturbance on the same block and went to investigate.

Officers confronted a person armed with a handgun. One officer shot at the person, who then barricaded themselves inside the home.

The Eau Claire Regional SWAT team was called to the scene and officers evacuated the neighboring apartments.

Crisis negotiators talked with the person on the phone, who agreed to a peaceful surrender. They were taken into custody and transported to a hospital. They were then taken to the Eau Claire County Jail.

Per ECPD policy, the officer who shot at the subject is on administrative assignment while the incident is reviewed. Also following department policy, the incident is being investigated by an outside law enforcement agency, The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation.
