Girl killed in shooting near Mt. Trashmore carnival in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A man and a girl were both shot near Mount Trashmore Park’s Summer Carnival on Saturday night, Virginia Beach police said. The girl has died from her injuries.

The shooting was reported just after 8:30 p.m. Police said it did not happen at the carnival itself, but was close enough that emergency and police units were able to arrive quickly and render aid. Both shooting victims were taken to the hospital, where the girl was pronounced dead.

Police described the shooting as a “chaotic scene.” Officers are working to direct traffic and are in “the process of locating of locating suspects.”

The ages and names of the victims have not been released at this time, nor has any information been released on what may have led to the shooting.

Police tell 13News Now they are continuing to search for suspects and evidence, and it remains an active scene.

The Mount Trashmore Summer Carnival opened on Friday night, and was scheduled to run until June 19.
