JACKSON, Miss. —
Jackson police confirmed that six people, including a 3-year-old girl, were injured Tuesday night in a drive-by shooting.
Chief Joseph Wade said the shooting was reported at about 10 p.m. in the 300 block of Maple Street.
“What is so extremely problematic and concerning for me is that a 3-year-old girl was shot, as well,” Wade said.
The chief said the girl was shot in the foot and is expected to recover. He said the other victims are three women, ages 23, 52 and 32, and three men, ages 34 and 27.
Wade said the Jackson Police Department and Capitol Police will begin a joint effort Wednesday evening.
“We met earlier (Tuesday) because we anticipated when you have these types of shootings where a number of people were injured, then you have retaliation,” Wade said.
The chief called the shooter or shooters reckless, cowardly and lawless.
“This is a continuous cycle of violence and retaliation,” Wade said.
No arrests have been made in the case. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS.
