Shots Fired Incident Reported in West Haven, CT

West Haven, CT — August 22, 2024

On Wednesday, August 21, at approximately 10:15 PM, West Haven police received multiple reports of gunshots fired on Willow Street. Responding officers found spent shell casings at the scene, but no gunshot wound victims were reported.

Shortly after the initial reports, a video emerged showing police and first responders at a gas station on First Avenue, near I-95 South and a few blocks from Willow Street. The video depicts American Medical Response (AMR) and Fire Department Rescue personnel with an individual on a stretcher. The footage also shows a West Haven Police Department (WHPD) vehicle and what appears to be a person in custody. This occurred around the same time as reports of over 20 gunshots in the area.

Initial investigations reveal that no ballistics evidence was found on First Avenue, nor has a clear location of the origin or landing of the shots been established. Additionally, no gunshot wound victims have been identified.

Authorities are requesting any available information or video footage from the area. Specifically, they seek footage from Willow Street around 10:15 PM and First Avenue between Thompson Street and Clifton Street around 11:15 PM on August 21. Information of interest includes muzzle flashes, audio of gunfire, and the presence of vehicles in the vicinity at the times of the incidents.
