Joint Base Charleston station, area schools locked down by ‘security incident’

GOOSE CREEK, S.C.  – The Joint Base Charleston Naval Weapons Station was locked down Friday in response to “an ongoing security incident.”

Around 10:45 a.m., security forces responded to a domestic dispute in base housing. Nearby Marrington Elementary and Middle Schools as well as the Child Development Center were locked down.

Additionally, residents of base housing had to shelter in place.

“We take any threat to the safety and security of our installation seriously, and as such, we activated our established procedures to ensure the safety of our personnel and the surrounding community,” officials said in a release.

Goose Creek Police and Berkeley County deputies were also on the scene.
