Suspect found after officer shot in Chesterfield County

The suspect in the shooting of a McBee police officer late Thursday night was found Friday morning around 10 a.m. after a standoff with law enforcement in Darlington County.

A standoff unfolded near Una Road in Darlington County following a Blue Alert Friday morning.

The McBee police officer was shot while responding to an incident on 11th Street near McBee High School, according to Chesterfield County Sheriff Cambo Streater. McBee Police Chief Tim Knight said the suspect fired at the officer “more than 60 times.”

McBee Mayor Glenn Odom told ABC 15 the officer was shot three times. “He’s home resting and in good sports. He’s got to have some surgery on his forearm where the bullet lodged. But, other than that he appears to be ok. It’s a miracle sent to us by the Lord. The officer is a good man,” said Odom.

During the standoff, Una Road was blocked and community members said dozens of officers from different jurisdictions, including the State, Law Enforcement Division (SLED), DNR, Darlington, Florence and Chesterfield Counties were on scene.

A trooper was standing at the entrance of the road with his shotgun and neighbors reported hearing gunshots in the area.

ccording to the incident report, the officer was shot and injured by 27-year-old Alston Modilin.

Modilin was seen travelling westbound towards Florence in a white 2023 Toyota Tacoma at 6:01 a.m. As of 9:42 a.m., his car was found and he is reported as being on foot.

According to a statement by Chesterfield County School District, the officer was conducting a traffic stop near the McBee High School Agricultural Building.

The district continued, “Rumors have been circulating that a shooting took place at McBee High School and those reports are false. The incident took place near the high school but was not related to McBee High School itself.”

Horry County will work the crime scene.
